While Avon may be better known for their cosmetics and beauty creams, their costume jewelry— particularly from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s—has become highly sought after. In 1886, at the age of 28, David H. McConnell began a company named the California Perfume Company, selling perfume door to door. The company’s first color catalogue was produced in October of 1906. In 1939, the company changed it’s name to Avon Products, Inc. In 1954, Avon began it’s wildly successful “Avon Calling” ad campaign. In 1971, Avon began to market costume jewelry and soon costume jewelry would be one of the company’s most popular lines. Some of this jewelry was produced by designers such as Kenneth J. Lane, Jose Maria Barrera, and others in the 1980s, and Avon’s reputation for offering high-quality yet affordable costume jewelry began to attract additional notable designers to the line. Now some of these pieces are in big demand and sometimes pricy, not to mention extremely difficult to find. This adorable AVON owl pendant has an articulating body hanging from the original golden metal chain which can be adjusted to almost any length desired giving you versatility with this beautiful necklace. This golden owl’s body is on hinges making it capable of moving forward, backward and sideways so that it is eye catching in the way it sways and dances as you move. It would make an excellent gift for AVON collectors or an awesome addition to your own collection!
This pendant is signed Avon, measures 2.5”L x 1″W and has four moveable segments attached with hinges. The chain measures 24”L (adjustable) has a spring ring clasp and is in excellent vintage condition.
